Spring 2026 Session Has Officially Ended!
The Algiers Career and Educational Development Program is a youth workforce development program hosted by AEDF in partnership with the office of Louisiana State Senator Gary Carter, Jr.
This engaging opportunity for growth and career exploration is designed for high school juniors and seniors who attend Algiers-based schools or who live in Algiers. Participating students gain skills and knowledge necessary to find their path in a modern workplace and rapidly evolving world.
Each session began with lectures from community leaders or subject area experts, covering topics such as workplace and interview etiquette, resume building, writing a cover letter, and more! The students explored potential career opportunities available to them right here in Algiers and the greater New Orleans area by attending field trips to local employers and universities!
Students who completed the session in full received a stipend to reward them for the time and commitment demonstrated by their attendance and engagement in this program. Stipend amounts depend on the number of accepted applicants to the program.

Spring 2026 ACED Completion Ceremony
Saturday, June 13, AEDF got to award our Algiers Career Education Development students for their completion of the program.
The past 6 months getting to know these students and help them plan for the future has been an honor and a great privilege. AEDF prides ourself on contributing to the growth of Algiers, and that includes our youth. When we do right by our children and guide them in the right direction, they only bring good back to the community that shaped them.
Thank you to Senator Gary Carter for spearheading ACED and continuing to be involved in the betterment of the program. Thank you Brandon Armant for being an exceptional keynote speaker. And thank you State Representative Delisha Boyd, Constable Edwin Shorty, and Former Clerk of 2nd City Court and Clerk of Criminal District Court, Darren Lombard, for showing up for these young students and embarking much needed wisdom as they enter this new chapter of life.
ACED students were also presented with proclamations from the House of Representatives, thanks to Rep. Boyd, and Congressional Certificates from the U.S. House of Representatives thanks to Congressman Troy Carter.
We are filled with joy knowing how readily people rally to pour into our youth.
Program Details
ACED is a five-month long program held from February until June. Sessions take place from 9:00am-3:00pm on one Saturday each month.
Students requiring transportation to each session will need to be picked up and dropped off by a parent/guardian at the New Orleans Public School System building (2401 Westbend Pkwy. New Orleans, LA 70114). Students who are unable to arrange transportation to and from sessions will be offered bus passes. Parents/Guardians of participating students will be asked to sign parental consent and photo release forms.
Participating students will work with Mrs. Jackie Perry, the ACED Program Manager, and can reach out to her as their main point of contact for any questions or concerns while applying and throughout the program.

Saturday, April 18, ACED students, AEDF staff, and AEDF Board Member Carla Shorty, had the pleasure of touring Delgado Community College City Park Campus.
From the wide range of courses, extensive library, and gym open to the public, we got to show the students of ACED all that Delgado has to offer.
